Care for the eyes is a major interest of Lions Clubs worldwide.
The Lions Club International Foundation promotes programs for the blind and the vision impaired (who often cannot afford even minimum care).
Dripping Springs Lions Clubs participate in virtually every one.
Eyeglasses. Discarded glasses are collected in Dripping Springs at Norwest Bank and at Eyecare Associates (RR12 South). They are used worldwide to benefit those who have a need. SightFirst. A program of Lions Clubs International delivering eye health care at no cost to the recipients. Vision professionals donate their time and skill. The collected discarded eyeglasses are sorted and reused. Fund-raising by clubs everywhere, like the Dripping Springs Lions Clubs, and philanthropic donations fund these activities. New Eyeglasses. The DS Lions Club pays for eye exams and new eyeglasses for needy students. The DSISD school nurses refer students to this beneficial program. Eye Care Associates (27490 RR12 South) discounts its services and materials for this program. White Cane Day. Once a year the members of the DS Lions Club solicit contributions to help support the Lions eye care activities. Its name comes from the miniature white cane pin offered to contributors. Central Texas Eye Bank The Lions Mobile Health Screening Unit provides free preventive eye health protection to local residents.

Contributions provided by the Lions Club to its many community projects are generated solely via the Club's fund-raising projects, which are manned by its energetic, dedicated volunteer members. Many thanks to the people of Dripping Springs for their generous support.
