The Stevie Ray Vaughan Experience
I don't know what it is...over ten years after he died he still comes into my life and it makes me feel re-born of the blues and what it really means to play guitar. Back in the early 80's, i heard Bowie's Lets Dance album and thought 'what is that guitar player doing - that's too cool'. so I bought the SRV debut album after finding out that that guitar player had a band and a album. Loved the album, and when i found out that he was coming to Toronto Canada I thought 'hey, I gotta see this guy!' so I bought 4 tickets (no problem unlike the famous bands at the time) and seating was a first come bases, so you had to get there early. Me and some friends got there about 4 hours early and nobody was waiting in line. I thought, well this guy isn't very popular. well, good thing 'cause after a sound check Stevie went out to his bus parked at the side of the building to have a beer and sit down with Chris and Tommy. a few people stopped him and he stopped to sign autographs so I got to meet him. all I could say was "man, you are awesome" and all he said was 'hey, I do my best". anyway, there was no cooling in that hall (Concert Hall) and man was it hot. we were all drenched in our seats. now, I am 39 years old and have been playing since I was 14. when Stevie came on stage and flew into Scuttle Buttin' I was speechless. I've heard lots of guitar players, seen lots but when I first saw Stevie live, he was un-believeable. I can honestly say that watching Stevie play that night and luckily about 5 times after that at other places, truly showed me what it is to play a Guitar. To love your instrument, to have a passion for what you do, and to give it all. Stevie, I only met you for a minute BUT when you died i felt like I lost a brother. I cried that day. But when I play now, I think, "Stevie, I hope I make you proud". TommyC
