The Stevie Ray Vaughan Experience
Although I've been playing guitar for 30 years it's only 5 years ago that I finally got around to fulfilling a long held ambition to own a Fender Stratocaster. At that point I began looking into and listening to electric guitarists. Somebody suggested I check out the video of SRV at the El Mocambo. I thought they were talking about that guy with the bandana who played with Springsteen... Watching that video was about as close to a religious experience as I ever thought I'd come and at the end I was in tears. It was as if I'd been trying to learn a foreign language, all those years, and while I had mastered accent and pronunciation I never really understood the meaning of the words. Suddenly it was as if a light had been turned on in a darkened room and everything finally made sense. Stevie Ray Vaughan was a revelation, to me. He didn't simply play music; he became music. He showed me that playing electric guitar was not about flash or speed or pedal effects; it was about closing your eyes and letting go and allowing your heart and soul to complete the circuit with your hands and that piece of wood and metal. Stevie Ray Vaughan changed my life when his music touched my soul. I weep for the years I wasted and for never having had the chance to see or thank him for all that he's given to me. CustomStrat
