a friend of mine introduced me to SRVs music, he played me a couple of albums. i was blown away! there was a SRV gig coming up soon in my home town, but sadly i just didn't have the money to go. my friend went to the gig and told me i really missed out. i was determined to go to the gig next time SRV came to town. sure enough, that time came, and i got myself a ticket, ODEON HAMMERSMITH/MONDAY 10.09.90 7.30pm! just 8 days to go, i was SO EXCITED at the thought of seeing the man, and hearing some amazing guitar playing going down. Sunday/ a week and one day to go before the gig, i went fishing, i dont recall now if i caught anything....but what i DO REMEMBER,is packing my fishing stuff away, and getting in the car to drive home. i turned on the radio, and was supprised to hear SRV playing 'voodoo chile'. i thought to myself,"about time this station played some decent music for a change!" when the track finished playing, the D.J said..."and we're playing that as a tribute to STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN, who was killed in a helecopter crash last night"..... well, i don't mind admitting to you that i cried all the way home. it really felt to me like someone had just told me my folks had been killed (honestly). someone said to me when i got back home, "well, you have the ticket, so you can get your money back". some people JUST DONT GET IT,DO THEY....so here we are, nearly eleven years on, and i still have the ticket right here! i wish STEVIE was still here too.
