The Stevie Ray Vaughan Experience
Skeeter
June 1, 2001

I'm a Country bassist, and over the last fifteen years I've had countless opportunities to jam & gig with Fender pickers.

Afterward, when these guys kick back & get to talking about their gear and their "Dream Axe", one topic invariably comes up- How can they get that "Stevie Ray Growl" out of the Super Twin. Hardly a word about Merle, or Pete Anderson, or Wade. Always Stevie. Seems as though everybody's got an opinion- settings, tunings, string guages, attitude, outlook. When I first started playing out (back in '78), Eddie Van Halen was getting a lot of props, but he was never an ongoing topic like it's been with SRV.

After having my plans for a 'Skynnyrd show ripped away from me back in '77, I made it a point to do whatever was necessary to catch my favorite artists when they came into town.

Unfortunately, I got old & started letting the minor things in life become big ones. One day, it was too much of a bother to make the effort.

Today, I can only throw "Double Trouble Live" on the turntable, & tell myself I won't let it happen again.
