The Stevie Ray Vaughan Experience
Susan
March 21, 2001

I first saw SRV's silhouette in a light powder blue 3/4 length jacket wearing his trademark hat with a long white feather in it, carrying his "first wife", his guitar as he got on stage. I was intrigued. Who was this? I had been surfing the channels on TV and there he was on stage in the dark, with the spotlight suddenly on him. He was very young and fair skinned with long light shinny hair -- a knockout, I thought. He looked like the southern gentleman. He began to play, and at that moment I was mesmerized. His presence and the confidence he displayed as he played the first song changed my life forever. He had died about 5 years earlier. But his sound was so astounding that I could not believe what I was hearing. His band was behind him ... but not once did I take in who was there or not... all I could do is zero in on him. He sang Coldshot, Pride and Joy, Tightrope, Leave my Little Girl Alone and stuff like that. W-O-W!!! Then I caught him on VH1 Legends. I had to find out who this was. I went out and bought all his CDs and the more I listened the more I wanted. I find out who he was, where he came from, what he had accomplished and what happened in his life and it was incredible this link or bond I had built. Weird that someone could become so devoted to a being that no longer existed. Hearing Lenny, Riviera Paradise made me realize how great a musician he was. Now when I hear music it rings lukewarm to the down to earth, soul laden lyrics of this super start. What a loss. I cannot believe his life would be cut down so early. He had so much to give.

It boils down to PASSION. He had it and always will. Susan
