The Mourner This is from Sally Rosoff and it was posted on the groaners listserv. The author is not known. Though the young fellow's mom had just died, he couldn't afford to miss a day at work. The restaurant manager insisted he show up or be fired. So he did the best he could, deciding to honor his late parent with a black arm band over his uniform. And not just any black arm band. This one was elegant silk, with ornate decorations on it. It caught the attention of the customers at one of his tables, so they sang the Rogers and Hammerstein "Oklahoma!" hit, "Oh, Waiter. Beautiful Mourning. "
