The Politician

We've had some unusual politicians in our nation's history. People looked askance when Jesse Ventura was elected, but that's only because no one remembers a certain elected official of years ago.

This office-holder favored a certain soft drink and drank it to the exclusion of all else...to the extent that he eventually became called after this beverage. That wasn't his most unusual quirk, though! Although the official was in many ways a dull fellow--slow and methodical--he had one other quirk besides his beverage preference that marked him as newsworthy -- though at first it was a secret.

You see, many people in government keep pets -- look at Socks, Buddy, or Checkers for example -- but this person didn't keep an ordinary pet around his residence; instead, he had a sprite whom he kept around for company.

This magical being, who was blotchily multicolored, was kept hidden away from the public till, one day, a snooping reporter, prowling around the politician's residence, came upon the sprite. He asked, "Who are you?"

"I am the fairy, mottled, of a ploddin' Mayor Gingerale."
