Vanity in a Mirror (A Shaggy Puppy) This true-life tale is by Sonya Schali. She tells it as it actually happened out in God's country in California where I grew up. "At one time I worked in an optometrist's office, fitting and dispensing glasses. A former beauty queen, Miss Modesto, was our new patient. She balked at the prospect of new glasses, but really needed them. "When she returned to pick up the glasses, I placed them on her face. Before I could adjust them, she quickly turned her head and looked into the mirror. She yanked them off and said, "I didn't have any wrinkles before I got these." "She left in a huff and I never saw her in the office again."
