There's supposed to be a UPN affiliate KCY-49 but in an earlier thread on austin.general, we couldn't find anybody who could receive even a weak signal from this station, and the best information anybody had about them was that someone "heard" that they broadcast from downtown somewhere.

Saturday I was searching the TV channels I could pick up with a new table top TV antenna I had bought from Radio Shack. I came across a channel on 49 the reception was fair to good. I was happy to see Star Trek Voyager. BTW I am in Pflugerville.

I am really sick and tired of KTBC's contemptous treatment of their Star Trek franchise. Tonight (8/24/93) they had the nerve to "join" the program "in progress" TWENTY-FIVE minutes into the episode! This comes after several weeks of showing the program at random times like 1:30 AM or 2:30 AM.
HELLO? Doesn't anyone realize that is a drama? With a plot? which doesn't make much sense if you skip the first half?
Would KTBC and Paramount *please* not renew their contract next year, and pass the francise to a station that might actually put the programs on the air so people can watch them?
Apparently the brains at KTBC havent' figured out that their business involves PUTTING PROGRAMS ON THE AIR, so that people with watch them (and the commercials). Otherwise, a television channel isn't really good for much, is it?

On saturday evening 11-23-96, during prime time scheduling, I was shocked to see Channel 7 promoting prostitution by allowing an advertisement for an mens club known as the Show Palace in Austin, Texas. My 14 year old daughter and 11 year old boy also witnessed the commercial much to all our surprise. In the age of remote control, it was easy to quickly change to more respectable stations that will not stoop to such drastic measures to boost ratings. I will probably give the station one more chance hoping that maybe this was some sick joke. If it proves not, then I guess I will de-program channel 7 from the remote control. PS: I'm not some bible thumper, just a concerned Dad, with still a sense of dignity and morality!

Every time KTBC has an important event going out over their airwaves, such as today's game between the Packers and the Panthers, they seem to have technical difficulties. Today's was a truly annoying intermittent audio signal, which took them until HALFTIME to clear up!!! If they can't get their act together on high ratings days, maybe they should try some other line of work!!!

Plays MuchMusic during the day, which is an alternative music video channel from Canada. First time I saw bands like the Rainbow Butt Monkeys, Sacred Spirits, and other people on my way cool list. At 10:00 each night KVR-9 carries the Austin Music Network, including my favorite local show, Check This Action. Music is about 80% of the coverage for KVR-9. There is also a news report gaga with information overload -- a talking head in the upper right corner, statistical summaries in the bottom window, and factoids in the upper left. I immediately recognized one of the co-hosts of "Sneak Peeks", a film review show, at an art opening in South Austin two weekends ago, so I may be watching too much.

KVR-TV Channel 9 features an alternative video magazine called SEE that is informative, irreverent, and very entertaining. The hosts seem to be having a grand 'ol time and the videos are great. I've seen SEE feature interviews with bands like Sister Machine Gun, Gravity Kills and Emergency Broadcast Network. I've also seen videos by Future Sound of London, Bandit Queen and EBN. And to top it off, I saw an acoustic performance by Dahveed! It is by far the best source of music info in Austin. It makes Check this Action look like a show for the elderly. Watch it. It's on ACCESS Channel 10 on Tuesdays at 11pm.

Just to let you know that KVR-TV is not a UT run station any more than KLRU is. We are a part of the Texas Student Publications which maintains the Texan, the Cactus, UT Directory and KVRX. Students run the station while advisors and the TSP Board guide us.
Thanks, Martin Harris, Station Manager
