Austin Tree Sprecialists
Austin Tree Specialist (2307 W 9th, 474-6614)
- For tree service, I recommend Austin Tree specialist and ask for owner Pat Wentworth. He was recommended to me by a landscaper for handling a sick tree. They also do tree trimming.

Bartlett Tree Experts (11126 Jollyville Road 345-7073)
- I just had "Bartlett Tree Experts" trim back my live oaks. Good job, no complaints (not that I know enough about trees to complain intelligently), $240 total.
- moller@austin.ibm.com (Chris Moller)
- I've been happy with Patrick Brewer of Bartlett Tree Experts. It has cost me a lot of money, but they did a nice job with a 200 year live oak in my front yard.
- neilf@natinst.com (Neil Feiereisel)
- We used Patrick Brewer. What initially impressed us was he spent an hour and a half telling us what kind of trees we have (and we apparently have a variety!) and explaining how some trees weren't in as bad shape as we thought. We had them do some minor pruning and deep fertilization, total of about $280.

Caldwell Tree (345-7078)
- I just had some trees trimmed by Caldwell. They seem to do a pretty good job but they are certainly not cheap. Since they charge by the hour you should have a pretty good idea of how long it takes to do the job. And they start the clock when they get in the truck to come to your place. I bought eight hours of work but taking off drive time, setup time, and takedown time, they actually worked about six hours. Your mileage may vary.

- Whatever you do, be careful about caldwel and other big operations like it. They charge from the time they start coming to your house and also many little charges to do the job properly. All in all, three or four large oaks can easily cost you $800 or more. You should definitely look into some smaller operation which also would remove debris. Better yet, get in the habit of doing it yourself and save a bundle. Just be sure to cut correctly and treat the cut with proper sealant.

- This is in direct contrast to my experience with Caldwell. I called for an estimate, and was told that the minimum service call was for four hours with a two man crew. The estimator also explained that they could do the cleanup with a cleanup crew that charged less than their tree trimming crew, or they would leave the debris, and I could clean it up. I chose to do the clean up myself (they had already cut the large branches into short pieces).
- I contracted for a four hour job, the two man crew was on my property and working for four hours, they completed trimming five live oak trees (all with 12" diameter or larger trunks, and one with a 30" diameter trunk), and the bill was for exactly eight man hours of labor. I knew in advance exactly how much it would cost (about $350.00).
- I chose Caldwell because they are a well established company with plenty of references to illustrate their workmanship. I was very satisfied with the price and the work that they did.

Dan's Tree Service (453-8838)
- There is a guy in my neighborhood that has a tree service that is highly recommended by people I know, His service is called Dan's Tree Service. I don't have a number for them, but they are on Pasadena Drive.

Superior Trees (320-8740)
- I had recommended Austin Tree Specialists - but they can be pricey. A good alternative is "SUPERIOR TREES." They are fully insured and have a much smaller staff so they are cheap. Very inexpensive but very good work.

Tree Masters (13225 W Hwy 71, 263-3500)
- I'm not sure about Caldwell, but I just used "TreeMasters" on recommendation of a friend...
- They came out, removed the ball moss, trimmed up the trees, sprayed ball moss killer and fertilized... They also do a follow-up in six months to redo ball-work and respray...
- They did an excellent job, and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves...
- It was VERY expensive to have this done ($300 per large tree), but they were the same (or cheaper) than everyone else who quoted...
