Trevor Romain

Author, Illustrator, Trevor Romain sees himself as Monty Python meets Dr. Seuss at PeeWee Herman's house in Mr. Roger's neighborhood.

With 10 books currently in print and over 40 completed manuscripts, Trevor has been writing children's stories since he was eight years old. "My dream since I was in second grade was to write children's stories," says Trevor. "I'm exceptionally lucky because now I live in my own dream. I love it."

Besides writing, illustrating, speaking at schools, drinking tea and avoiding trouble, the South African born Romain spends a lot of time with sick children. He is a board member of the Candlelighter's Childhood Cancer Foundation and can often be found on the cancer ward at Brackenridge Hospital doing his rounds as Doctor of Mischief. "I've learned more from these children than I ever learned at school," says Romain. "And I have taken what I have learned and hidden it in the stories and scripts I write."

Trevor has spoken to almost 27,000 school children over the last four years and has had over 100 articles written about his work and attempts to enrich children's lives. Trevor receives hundreds of letters annually from principals, teachers, and students whom he has touched with his humor, spirit and ability to motivate:

"Trevor's excitement for life was so evident in his interaction with our students. The world of literature is made ore exciting due to his talents." --Ernest Singleton, Principal, Pillow School, Austin, Texas.

"Austin can lay claim to may stars-- musical, political, and literary. One rising star is Trevor Romain. I'd heard the name before, always it seemed, in the context of doing good deeds (like his charming testimonial for a public fund--raiser or his work on children's issues with the Texas Medical Association). Likewise, his books are awash in the sweetly heroic." --Austin Chronicle, Austin, Texas.

"We're going to hear more about Trevor Romain. His writing is simple but powerful. He knows how to tell a real story." --Al Nettle, Union Leader Newspaper, Manchester, New Hampshire.

"Every community needs a Trevor Romain." --Michael McDonald, Senior Sergeant, Houston Police Department.

"Trevor Romain wants to be the Dr. Seuss of the future. I think he can do it! A quick glance at the forty or so manuscripts he has written, proves it." --Danielle Wyskowski, Johannesburg Star Newspaper.

"Trevor is an outstanding author and speaker. We all want to hear more. We went home with a refreshing outlook on life, uplifted by all he does for children." --Alice Parish , President, Smith County Medical Alliance. "We were left with an everlasting impression when Trevor left our school." --Clarissa Ornellas, Special Education Teacher, Austin, Texas.

"When my six year old Renee was dying, Trevor sat at the bedside day and night. He promised her he would stay and did until she died. Trevor is an angel with the cancer children in Austin. He did the same thing with Megan and Victor and Dana and Vicky." --Marcy Dauphin, Austin, Texas.

"Trevor Romain needs to be cloned and sent to libraries all over the country. He did more in one visit than most teachers can do in a year." --Dora Nisby, Director of Library Services, Beaumont, Texas.

"Trevor Romain can change people's lives through his writing." --Debi Stokes--Daughn, Executive Director, Candelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Trevor currently lives in Austin, Texas and spends a lot of time on the road doing book signings and talks. He has appeared on many television talk shows in Texas and done countless radio guest appearances. He is busy developing his won television series and has just completed a children's radio show which he would like to see syndicated nationally.

Trevor loves what he does and it shows. Besides his stories here at Austin Axis, his work is available at bookstores nationwide, including Barnes and Noble, Bookstop and others.
